TMJ Pain & Jaw Joint Treatment
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jaw to your skull, and problems with it are common: clicking or popping sounds, pain in front of the ear, headaches, and episodes where the jaw locks open or closed.
Most TMJ disorders improve with conservative care — habit counselling, physiotherapy, occlusal splints and medication. Procedures are reserved for the minority of patients whose joint disease doesn't respond, starting with minimally invasive options like arthrocentesis.
A careful diagnosis comes first: clinical examination, imaging where indicated, and an honest discussion of options starting with the least invasive.

Frequently asked questions
My jaw clicks but doesn't hurt. Do I need treatment?
Painless clicking alone usually doesn't need treatment — many people have it all their lives. Treatment is indicated when there's pain, locking or restricted opening.
What is arthrocentesis?
A minimally invasive procedure where the joint space is flushed with sterile fluid through two fine needles, releasing the disc and washing out inflammatory mediators. It's done as a day procedure and often gives significant relief.
